We would rather say that plainly than keep a page of positions open to collect applications we are not going to read. When there is a role, it appears here with the work, the level and the range in it.

Not a prototype, not a demo. A system other people depended on, that broke at some point, and that you fixed while they were waiting.
You can sit with a process owner
Most of the difficulty in this work is not technical. It is finding out how a process actually runs, from the person who runs it, when the documented version is fiction.
You write things down
Runbooks, decision records and architecture are deliverables here, not favours at the end of a project. If documentation is something you resent, this will be a bad fit.
You are comfortable saying no
A good part of the job is telling a client that a process should not be automated yet, or at all. That is easier to do when nobody is chasing a licence target, which is the point of how we are set up.

Small teams, senior people
There is no delivery pyramid to sit on top of. The people in the assessment are the people who build, which means the estimate and the consequences belong to the same person.
You stay with what you build
Programs move into managed operations and the team that built them stays involved. You find out whether your design survived contact with real volume.
Client environments, client repositories
We build in the client's cloud and their repositories. That imposes a discipline on quality that building in your own sandbox does not.
